The University of Kentucky Department of Entomology’s fact sheet on mosquitoes for homeowners lists clogged rain gutters among the “most overlooked breeding sites for mosquitoes” around a house. A Kentucky Extension agent’s tip sheet on mosquitoes, dated June 2025, says “Periodically inspect gutters to make sure they drain properly.” A 2004 University of Kentucky College of Agriculture news piece gives the same advice: “Clean debris from rain gutters and unclog obstructed downspouts.” All three are about mosquitoes and are not specific to Independence.
