Orleans solar on the public record

A MassDEP letter dated October 31, 2013 approved the post-closure use of the Orleans Sanitary Landfill, 56 Lots Hollow Road, for a 0.574 megawatt solar photovoltaic array. The Cape & Vineyard Electric Cooperative’s project table lists an “Orleans Capped Landfill” entry with a commercial operation date of 5.15.15. A January 12, 2023 memo from the Town’s Energy and Climate Action Committee says the Town has leased the landfill site for a Cape & Vineyard Electric Cooperative array and has a small array on the Council on Aging building. The Town Meeting page for May 2025 described Article 20 as covering the proposed cost of municipally owned solar projects at the Wastewater Treatment Facility on Overland Way, the Water Treatment Facility off Route 28 and the DPW Facility on Giddiah Hill Road.
