The main commercial road, in the Town’s own words

The Town’s open space plan calls Route 28 “our main commercial corridor”, and puts Route 6 (the Mid-Cape Highway) and historic Route 6A to the north. The Zoning Bylaw says that in the 1950s and 60s the Town “became a popular summer destination with the construction of many traditional seasonal motels and hotels along Route 28”.

From Parker’s River to Town Hall

Along the Route 28 corridor and across the rest of Yarmouth, estimates cover homes and businesses. Sea Holly Park is on Route 28 at Parker’s River. Chase Brook Park and Mill Creek Park are also on Route 28, at 261 and 281 Route 28. The Town puts Baxter Grist Mill on Route 28 east of Town Brook Road. Yarmouth Town Hall is at 1146 Route 28 in South Yarmouth, and Anniversary Park sits at the corner of North Main Street and Route 28.

Drought rules and booking early

The Town’s Water Department page says it applies drought conservation measures “as declared by the Massachusetts Drought Management Task Force”. It lists, per MassDEP, the outdoor water uses that are not treated as nonessential, including “professional washing of exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways and/or sidewalks as necessary to apply surface treatments”, which the page ties to work “in the course of construction, reconstruction or renovation work”. The page also says that outdoor use of water outside its listed categories “is prohibited at this time”, and that “Outdoor watering restrictions are currently paused for winter (October 1 through April 30), but will resume May 1 if drought conditions persist”. Booking exterior cleaning early, before the peak of summer, is the smart move.
