RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

Clearly Amazing provides soft washing — sometimes called house washing — for siding, stucco, fences and patios, not just roofs, across San Diego and Orange Counties from our Opportunity Road office. It’s a soft, low-pressure alternative to power washing, not a stronger version of it.

San Diego’s outdoor-washing rules and your house
Under San Diego Municipal Code §43.0304, it is illegal to discharge polluted wash water from pressure washing, power washing or hosing down an outdoor surface into the storm sewer system, with penalties that can reach $10,000 per day per incident. The City’s pressure-washing fact sheet says that washing or hosing down outdoor surfaces such as buildings, windows, sidewalks, patios and fences contributes to ocean pollution.
San Diego requires anyone washing an outdoor surface to manage where that water goes rather than letting it run off unchecked. The City’s sheet spells that out in three steps: control (decide where the water will drain and how to block, direct and collect it before the job starts), contain (never let polluted wash water or debris leave the work area) and capture (don’t leave wash water standing on pavement to evaporate).
The City’s guidance also recommends biodegradable, phosphate-free detergents, and allows directing wash water to a landscaped area if the soil can absorb it without runoff or soil contamination.
What grows on decks and walkways
The University of California’s Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program says algae, lichens and moss can grow in moist, shady spots such as decks, pavement and roofs. On a walkway or a pool deck, the same growth is also a safety issue — the same guidance notes that algae and moss on hard surfaces make them slippery and unsafe to walk on. Where growth on hardscapes is a problem, UC suggests redirecting downspout water away from them.
San Diego’s housing mix means a soft wash job is not always for a single-family house. Citywide, roughly 38 out of every 100 housing units are in buildings with five or more units.

What the service includes
Protect what’s nearby. We soak the surrounding plants.
Wash at low pressure. Siding, stucco, fences, decks and patios get a low-pressure application, without the force that can drive moisture behind siding or strip paint.
Manage the runoff. We manage the runoff path on every job. If a crew notices something along the way — a crack in the stucco, a failing window seal — we photograph it and pass it along.
When to schedule
At San Diego International Airport, NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals put more than 8 of the year’s 9.79 inches of rain between November and March. September and October, before the wetter months arrive, make a good window for a wash.
Outside that window works too, for reasons entirely your own — before a gathering, before a paint job, or simply once the siding looks duller than it used to. A soft wash fits into a maintenance cycle rather than a single occasion, and any month can be the right one to start.
Areas we cover
We provide soft washing to properties across San Diego and Orange Counties. If your address sits near that boundary, the estimate call will confirm it either way.
Soft washing questions from San Diego homeowners
Is soft washing just a soft power wash?
No — it swaps force for chemistry. A power washer relies on water pressure to move dirt, which is exactly what can drive water behind siding or strip paint; a soft wash uses a low-pressure application and lets the solution do the work of lifting dirt and killing growth.
Will this hurt my plants?
We soak the surrounding plants.
Do you manage where the wash water goes?
Yes. We manage the runoff path on every job.
Are your crews insured?
Yes. Crews carry general liability coverage and workers’ comp, and the people on your job are Clearly Amazing employees — a subcontractor comes in only rarely, for specialized work. We can provide a certificate of insurance if you need one for your records.
