Solar in the City’s land development code

Section 126-913 of Sanibel’s Land Development Code says “A development permit is required for ground-mounted solar installations and solar-covered parking canopies, generally.” The City’s Building Department also publishes a solar permit checklist that asks for a Florida Solar Energy Center certification form. These are installation and permit rules, and none of them mentions cleaning.

In an October 9, 2026 news post, the City said it is partnering with Solar United Neighbors to launch the Southwest Florida Solar Co-op. The post says “The group is accepting new members through January 29, 2027.” A 2023 update from the same nonprofit lists the City of Sanibel among the sponsors of the earlier co-op.
