Oregon City’s terraces and its elevator

The City describes Oregon City’s topography as three terraces that rise above the river, and says the original town lies just below the base of a steep basalt cliff. The Oregon City Municipal Elevator, a 130-foot lift, links the historic downtown with the upper level. The City calls it one of only four municipal elevators in the world and the only one in the United States.
