In the Hyannis Main Street Waterfront Historic District Ordinance, “altered” is defined as “Changed in exterior color, or otherwise exteriorly changed, rebuilt, reconstructed, restored, removed, and/or remodeled”. Among the commission’s exclusions is “Ordinary maintenance, repair, repainting, or replacement of any exterior building or site feature within the district” that does not change design, material, color, or outward appearance. The section does not mention cleaning or washing. The district is the Hyannis one only, and the wording is from a June 2024 archive of the Town’s code.
