How Coronado permits rooftop solar

The City’s Solar Photovoltaic page says “Expedited permit processing is available for residential solar photovoltaic (PV) projects that are roof-mounted and up to 10kW.” It adds that “Contractors may now apply for Solar Permits via SolarAPP+ and the City of Coronado online permitting system”. The City’s Energy Efficiency page reports “Building Permit Staff has issued 288 permits for solar photovoltaic systems in the past 3 years.” That page carries no date.

Go Green Coronado, on the City’s Project Coronado site, lists “Free local permits for rooftop solar systems, solar water heaters, home battery systems, and electric vehicle charging stations.” A note on that page adds that free local permit waivers do not apply to mandated state fees. The page also says plans “are reviewed the same day as the submittal for small/medium sized projects.” Those are the City’s descriptions of its own process, and they are all about getting installations permitted. None of them mentions cleaning.

Fees, a study and a plan

The Coronado Times reported in October 2023 that the Council voted to waive permitting fees for rooftop solar panels, home battery systems, solar hot water heaters and electric vehicle charging stations, and that the City “issues 140 rooftop solar permits annually”. In April 2026 the paper reported that the Council voted to commission a solar feasibility study for the Coronado Public Library. The City’s Climate Action Plan page says reduction measures “may include promoting rooftop solar installations”.

Silver Strand Boulevard and the Cays

The City describes Coronado Cays Park as “Situated south of The Village on Silver Strand Boulevard”. It lists the park at 100 Grand Caribe Causeway and North Cays Park at 4826 Coronado Cays Boulevard. The Port of San Diego lists Grand Caribe Shoreline Park at 598 Grand Caribe Causeway. The City says its limits include The Coronado Cays.
