Glass in the Downtown and Old Town design standards

Redmond’s Downtown Design Standards, read from an archived copy of the code from December 2023, say “A minimum of 60 percent of ground floor facades facing streets in the Town Center Mixed-Use area shall be in nonreflective, transparent glazing.” They also say “Stores should use enough glass so that the activity inside the store is obvious to the passerby.” For the Old Town zone they call for “numerous individual windows or larger windows having multiple panes”. These are design standards for building in those areas, not descriptions of existing storefronts.

The City lists “Large windows and natural light” among the design features of the Redmond Senior & Community Center, which opened in May 2024.

Overlake and the library

The City describes Overlake as home to “global technology and entertainment firms”, with access to SR 520 and two light rail stations. The King County Library System’s history of its Redmond Library, in an archived page from February 2026, lists the opening of a library “at the corner of NE 85th and 160th streets”.
