The City’s water report, in its own numbers

The City of Ridgefield’s 2025 Water Quality Report calls the City’s water “moderately hard.” Its text rates the hardness at an average of 100 parts per million when last tested, and its table of additional substances of customer interest lists hardness as 92 mg/L.

Downtown storefront glass in City documents

The City’s downtown design guidelines from 2004, “14 Essential Guidelines for Downtown Ridgefield,” say the downtown hardware-store building has the oldest original window pattern in Ridgefield and that the major element of each of its storefront windows “is a pair of transparent panes of glass separated by a simple vertical mullion.” They also say the light from inside storefront windows “contributes to the general illumination” of downtown at night. That document is design guidance for new development downtown.

Windows in the code for new homes

For new single-family development in its low- and medium-density residential zones, Ridgefield’s design standards set a minimum front façade window transparency of “At least ten percent.” Windows and their frames count toward that percentage. That minimum is a rule for new homes, and it says nothing about homes already built.
