Keeping your gutters clean is an essential part of maintaining your home. Clogged gutters can…
Why shouldn’t you do your own gutter cleaning? There are four key considerations when you think about cleaning out your own gutters:
- I’m not afraid of heights. I’ve got a 24-foot ladder and safety gear. I know how to properly carry and set-up and take down that ladder and I know how to put on safety gear, tie off to that roof so I can get access to those gutters, or I’m comfortable working from a ladder and moving it down all around my house.
- I don’t have an issue with sticking my hand in cold, wet dirty, muddy water and cleaning up my own gutter. I’ve got heavy-duty gloves to protect my hands from the cuts and scrapes that I might get. I’m not afraid of snakes. I’ve got my bucket system, and I’m going to take care of the debris that comes out of there myself.
- I’ve got good insurance. If the worst happens, I’ve got a medical team on standby. If I fall, I’m covered. I’m going to have my spouse, my partner, and my neighbor watching, and they’ll have their cell phones in hand, ready to call an ambulance if need be.
- I’ve got time to kill. I’ve got two hours to devote to this project at a minimum, and I’ve got nothing better to do.
I’ve got the time. I’m not afraid of heights. I don’t have an issue sticking my hand in dirty, muddy water. I’ve got a good insurance program just in case. If all those things apply to you, go for it. We’d love to hear your stories!
