Gutters in the Hyannis historic ordinance

The Hyannis Main Street Waterfront Historic District Ordinance lists what the commission’s review excludes. One item reads: “The installation of storm doors without ornamentation, storm windows, screens, gutters, and downspouts, provided they are the same color as the building or building trim.” It concerns installing gutters and downspouts, and the district is the Hyannis one only. That text was read in an archived copy of the Town’s code dated June 2024.

The Town’s rain barrel program

In spring 2026, the Town’s Planning & Development page described a rain barrel program, with orders due April 12 and pick-up on Friday, April 24 at Barnstable High School. The page says “The barrels collect the water that runs off the rooftops of buildings by way of a gutter or downspout.” It is a Town program, and it says nothing about cleaning gutters.
