Orange Avenue, Spreckels Park and the library

The City writes the street as “Orange Avenue (SR75)”. It lists Spreckels Park at 601 Orange Avenue and gives the Coronado Public Library as 640 Orange Avenue. The John D. Spreckels Center is at 1019 7th Street, and the Coronado Historical Association gives 1100 Orange Avenue as its museum address. Of Star Park the City says it is “just a block away from the beach and Ocean Boulevard”.

Windows and historic properties

The City’s alteration guidelines for properties with a Mills Act agreement say “Repair deteriorated windows and doors, instead of replacing them or enclosing the opening altogether, whenever possible.” That guideline covers Mills Act properties only, and it is about repairing and replacing windows. It does not mention cleaning glass.

A post by the Coronado Historical Association explains that a Historic Resource Alteration Permit “could be anything from changing a window, updating a roof, or as large as adding an extra room or floor to a house.” It describes designated historic resources.

Display windows in the Community Design Element

The City’s Community Design Element says “ground floor commercial uses with attractive display windows, decorative bulkheads, entries, signs, awnings, outdoor dining and landscaping, should be encouraged”. The element was adopted in 1986 and revised in 1996 and 2003. It is a planning policy and says nothing about how glass is kept clean.

The Coronado Shores and multi-unit housing

The Coronado Historical Association describes the Coronado Shores as “ten 15-story condominium complex buildings”. The Census Bureau’s 2020-2024 survey counts about 9,900 housing units in Coronado, and about 3,600 of them sit in buildings of five or more.
