Westfields Center’s own site carries a “Merry & Bright” tree-lighting flyer from the Westfields Business Owners Association. As the flyer prints it, the event is on December 4, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Field at Commonwealth, between Mellow Mushroom and Pueblos Tex-Mex Grill, with photos with Santa, family activities and holiday entertainment. Those details are the organizer’s.

Chantilly’s rules depend on your community

Chantilly is a census-designated place in Fairfax County. Rules we found in writing belong to individual communities, and they do not match each other.

Armfield Farm, which its association places in western Fairfax County, has 470 homes, reached from Centreville Road and Lees Corner Road, north of Route 50. Its design standards say exterior holiday decorations need no application. The standards call them temporary, say they “should not be installed 30 days before the holiday,” and require removal “no later than 30 days after the holiday.” That is the Armfield Farm homeowners association’s rule for its own homes. It is not a Chantilly rule, it does not carry over to other neighborhoods, and it is not a statement about our schedule. Your own community’s documents set your dates.

Westfields works differently. Its Architectural Review Board reviews new construction, modifications to properties, renovations, rooftop equipment, signage and lighting, and the association says changes to the outside of commercial, hotel and retail buildings need WBOA and ARB approval before work starts. Its pages do not mention holiday lights, so whether seasonal lighting counts as a change is a question for the association. That applies to properties inside Westfields only.

Repairs and takedown. If part of the display stops lighting in the middle of the season, a crew returns to fix that section. When the season winds down, the strands are taken down and carried off to storage.
