What the guidance says about gutters

An archived copy of a June 21, 2018 MSU Extension article on home maintenance includes the line “Be sure gutters and downspouts are working.” Preservation Brief 47, the National Park Service’s guidance for historic buildings, lists “Remove leaves and other debris from gutters and downspouts.” An archived 2021 copy of Flint’s City Code adopts the International Property Maintenance Code by reference. In section 304.7 of its 2012 edition, that model code says “Roof drains, gutters and downspouts shall be maintained in good repair and free from obstructions.” Those are the sources’ own words about gutters in general.
