Main Street and the mall area

The City’s Visitors page invites people to explore its historic downtown Main Street in Florence.

A City notice for a 2021 zoning workshop said the vision, guidelines and standards of the 1994 Main Street zoning study were no longer sufficient to guide the future of Florence’s historic Main Street core, and said the update focuses on the original 49.3-acre Florence Main Street district and on potential expansion areas of 28.3 acres. The same notice says the City hired a consultant in 2019 to update the historic buildings survey in the Main Street area. The National Park Service register has records for the Florence Hotel, with the style Queen Anne and the significant year 1875. The Florence Fire Station record gives the style Colonial Revival and the significant year 1937. Both records are on Main Street and both belong to the register’s Boone County multiple listing. A 1996 Boone County architectural survey said shopping centers clustered around the Florence Mall.

Banklick Street, Dixie Highway and the library branch

Banklick Street is the road the City’s directions use to reach Florence Nature Park from Dixie Highway (US 42). Dixie Highway runs through Florence, and the Boone County Public Library’s Florence Branch is at 7425 US 42.
