Before and after gutter cleaning by Clearly Amazing

Clearly Amazing handles Portland gutter cleaning for houses across the city and nearby communities, working out of our office in Tigard, Oregon. Our rain gutter cleaning service covers the whole system: debris comes out of the gutters, is bagged and disposed of, and the downspouts are cleared and flushed. If the crew finds something wrong along the way, they take photos and share them with you. Estimates are free and done at your house.

Leaf Day covers the street; your gutters are a separate job

Every November and December, the Portland Bureau of Transportation runs Leaf Day, removing fallen leaves from city streets in more than 50 leaf zones. PBOT says the service is there to give the city cleaner, safer streets, keep its storm drains clear and stop intersections from flooding. The zones are the parts of Portland with the heaviest concentration of street trees, the ones that, in the city’s words, “cause safety issues or clogged drains in heavy storms.” The 2026 season runs from November 9 to December 21.

All of that is about the street and the drains beneath it; the Leaf Day page says nothing about the gutters on a house. Clearing those is the job we do.

What’s growing along your street

Portland’s Urban Forestry division counts more than 333,000 street trees in the city, spread across 354 species, plus another 2.9 million trees on private property. The city’s planting guidance calls maples overrepresented, at roughly 24% of the street-tree population. The single most common street tree is the Norway maple, with more than 18,000 of them making up about 7% of the total.

Numbers like these describe the city as a whole, not your lot. What ends up in your own gutters, and how fast, depends on what grows near your roofline, and that’s what an on-site look is for.

NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for Portland International Airport put November at 5.45 inches of precipitation and December at 5.77, the wettest month of the year at that station. Those are the same two months the city runs Leaf Day.

Inspect

Leaves, twigs and grit come out of each gutter run and go into bags, and we dispose of the debris.

Clear

A gutter can look empty from the ground while the downspout under it is still blocked partway down. Running water through every downspout is how that shows up, so downspout cleaning is part of each visit.

Flush

A section pulling away from the fascia, a seam that leaks, a downspout that has come apart at a joint: when the crew spots something like that, they photograph it and send you the pictures, so you see what they saw from the ladder.

Scheduling Portland gutter cleaning

The ideal time is late fall, once the leaves are down. In Portland, the city treats November and December as leaf season, running its street pickup through both months. A cleaning in that stretch clears what has already come off the trees.

A spring visit is a good call too, especially after a winter that brought down branches or left grit on the roof. An overflowing gutter during a storm, a house about to go on the market, or simply not wanting to climb a ladder are all good reasons to call a gutter cleaner whenever they come up.

Think of it as regular upkeep rather than a one-time fix. How often your gutters need it depends on what grows around the house.

Common gutter questions

Do you clean the downspouts too?
Yes. Downspouts are cleared and flushed as part of the job, not just the gutters above them.

Can I book roof and gutter cleaning in Portland together?
Yes. If you’re having your roof cleaned, we can clear the gutters after the roof cleaning.

What happens to the leaves and debris?
It’s bagged, and we dispose of it.

Is your crew insured?
Yes. Every crew is covered by general liability insurance and workers’ comp, and a certificate is available on request.
