Gutter Cleaning in Clackamas, OR
RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

Clearly Amazing cleans gutters in Clackamas, Oregon — the unincorporated community east of I-205, about ten miles southeast of downtown Portland. That is a different place from Clackamas County, the much larger jurisdiction wrapped around it. The community itself covers roughly 2.18 square miles and sits low, at 121 feet above sea level, with the Clackamas River along its southern edge and the ground rising toward Mount Scott to the north.

Your lot sits somewhere between Mount Scott and the river
For a small area, Clackamas covers a surprising amount of vertical ground. Mount Scott, the volcanic cinder cone that gives the West Mount Scott area its name, tops out at 1,091 feet just to the north. The community itself sits at 121 feet, and the Clackamas River — some 83 miles of it, rising near Olallie Butte in the Mount Hood National Forest — forms part of its southern boundary. Within a couple of miles you can go from sloping ground in the north to flat river-adjacent ground in the south.
An overflowing gutter behaves completely differently at those two ends. On the sloping northern lots, water coming over the front lip runs off. It still does damage, cutting channels through beds and washing soil off the high side of the house, but it leaves. On the low southern ground it stays. Through a wet season running roughly from mid-October to early May, the soil around a low lot is holding as much as it can for months at a stretch, so an overflow sits at the foundation: damp crawlspaces, beds that never dry out, and a slow soaking of the fascia the gutter is fastened to. On a slope the fix is about controlling the discharge; on the flats it is about getting the water away from the house before you let go of it.

What “Clackamas” on your mail actually covers
Clackamas is not an incorporated city. There is no city hall and no city government to designate neighborhood associations the way Gresham or Milwaukie do; the area is governed directly by Clackamas County. Two practical consequences follow.
The first is that the area names in use here are informal. Rock Creek, West Mount Scott, Carver, Southgate, Sunnyside and Creekside all turn up in real-estate listings and everyday conversation, but none is an official designation and nobody publishes a boundary map. If two neighbors disagree about which one they live in, they can both be right.
The second is that a Clackamas mailing address stretches well past the community itself. It runs up against Sunnyside and Happy Valley to the north, Milwaukie, Oatfield and Johnson City to the west, Damascus and Boring to the east, and Gladstone and Oregon City to the south. Plenty of people with Clackamas on their mail are technically in one of those. It makes no difference to us, since we quote by address either way. It matters when you search, because directory listings routinely confuse the community with the county and hand you companies based in Canby, Molalla or Estacada. Those are genuinely in Clackamas County and nowhere near your house.

Areas we cover in Clackamas
Because there is no city government here, there is no official list of neighborhoods to work from. These are the names in everyday and real-estate use:
- Rock Creek — described in local listings as tree-lined, which in gutter terms means a run that refills on its own.
- West Mount Scott — the higher, sloping ground on the north side, named for the cone above it.
- Carver and Southgate — toward the eastern and southern edges of the area.
- Sunnyside and Creekside — the streets around the Clackamas Town Center district and the Kaiser Permanente campus.
We work the neighboring communities on every side too: Happy Valley, Milwaukie, Oatfield, Johnson City, Damascus, Boring, Gladstone and Oregon City. If you are not sure which you are in, give us the address.
When to schedule in Clackamas
September through the first half of October is the best window. The wet season across the Portland metro starts around the middle of October, and a system cleared just before it goes into the winter empty. On a low lot near the river, that is the difference between a downspout working for seven months and one backing up in November.
Any other time of year is a good time to have it done. People book in every month for real reasons — a house listing, a mid-winter overflow, a crawlspace that came up in an inspection, or just wanting it dealt with. Gutters cleared in spring go into the following fall in better shape.
Book a second visit in the year if any of these apply:
- Mature trees over the roofline. On the older tree-lined streets, one clearing a year is often not enough on its own.
- A low lot, or a crawlspace that has been damp before. Where the ground cannot take more water, the margin for a blocked downspout is smaller.
- A roof with an upper plane draining onto a lower one. Those short transition sections load several times faster than an open run.
Questions Clackamas customers ask
How often do gutters need doing here?
Once a year handles a lot of houses if it happens before the wet season starts in mid-October. Twice with heavy canopy over the roof, a low lot where standing water is already an issue, or a roof that dumps an upper plane onto a short lower run.
I have gutter guards. Do they still need clearing?
Yes, and we will tell you what yours are actually doing. Guards keep the big leaves out, which is worth something. Needles, seed pods, shingle grit and fine silt still get through and build up underneath, and on some designs debris mats on top of the guard and sends water over the front in heavy rain. The interval gets longer. It does not disappear.
Should I be doing this myself?
On a single-story house with a shallow roof and someone steadying the ladder it is a reasonable weekend job, and plenty of people here do it. Ladder work on sloping ground is much harder to set up safely, and the fall risk is real: the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates more than 164,000 emergency-room-treated ladder injuries a year. If the footing is awkward or the house is two stories, it is not worth it.
My address says Clackamas but I think I am really in Happy Valley. Do you still come out?
Yes. This happens constantly here, and the boundary makes no difference to scheduling or cost. Give us the street address rather than the area name.
