Heritage Ridge’s improvement application
The Heritage Ridge Homeowners Association’s site describes 57 lots in the Heritage Ridge Southview Heights Phase VI subdivision. Its Residence Improvement Application, posted in July 2021, lists “Roofing” among the improvement types. The application is for Heritage Ridge’s own lots, and it does not mention cleaning.

Downtown La Center’s roofing language
La Center’s additional standards for its downtown commercial (C-1) zone, as reproduced in the City’s 2025 draft code update, do not apply to “Replacement of windows, awnings, roofing materials, or other exterior building elements for maintenance reasons only to match existing materials and design.” The same subsection sets design rules for new buildings, and it is silent on cleaning.
Roofing in the City’s capital facility plan
A capital facility table in the City’s proposed 2025 Comprehensive Plan says the City Bank Building and Old City Hall are “currently being leased” and adds for each: “The City is responsible for building envelope, HVAC System, and roofing.” The plan is a proposal, and the table says nothing about the condition of either roof.
What asphalt shingle makers say
ARMA, the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association, says a pressure washer should never be used on an asphalt shingle roof. Owens Corning, GAF and CertainTeed advise against power washing asphalt shingles, too. ARMA says cleaning may make a roof slippery and encourages the use of professionals. Trained professionals only, ARMA says, should walk or work on a roof. Roof discoloration may recur, ARMA adds.
Southview Heights, the library, the high school and the Grange
Southview Heights is a neighborhood north of downtown. The La Center Community Library is in the historic Old Hospital Building on Northeast Lockwood Creek Road. La Center High School is at 725 Northeast Highland Road, and the La Center Grange is at 328 West 5th Street.
