Cleaning language in the Langley Fork guidelines
Langley Fork is a historic overlay district of approximately 71 acres, and the county’s guidelines for it say it is located in McLean, sited where Georgetown Pike meets Chain Bridge Road. For the district’s existing historic and contributing resources, the guidelines’ list of approaches that are not recommended includes “Pursuing treatments that may harm original materials, including harsh, abrasive, or unproven cleaning methods.” The document carries a January 2026 Final Draft label. It is the county’s guidance for that district’s historic buildings, not a rule for McLean at large, and which houses fall inside the district is the county’s to say.

Brick pavers along Chain Bridge Road
Fairfax County’s Community Revitalization Section says the McLean Streetscape project, completed in 2019, installed brick pavers, lights and landscaping along stretches of Chain Bridge Road. The county’s design guidelines for downtown McLean, endorsed by the Board of Supervisors on September 12, 2023, call brick pavers with concrete banding “the dominant streetscape paving design for the sidewalks and Amenity Zones.” The county’s own description is that developers are “encouraged to abide by these Guidelines.”
Driveways, walkways and patios in one community’s guidelines
The McLean Crest Homeowners Association posts Architectural Guidelines and Standards, and its Version 2 is dated June 14, 2023; this section describes that document only. Its general maintenance section makes residents responsible for “maintaining the exterior of their dwellings and any other structures on their lots, such as fences, driveways, landings, and walkways.” For new or relocated walkways it lists suggested materials: “concrete, brick, flagstone, etc.” Elsewhere it says most McLean Crest homes have rear grade-level patios, and that properties with rear or side yard patios are required to have a wood privacy fence enclosing them.
Where a painting resolution mentions a power wash
The About page of the McLean Mews Homeowners’ Association speaks of “the 47 homeowners in the Mews.” Its board’s exterior-painting resolution, adopted January 16, 2020, lists “(Optional) Power wash the surfaces to be painted” among the specifications, ahead of sanding, scraping, priming and the finish coat. The same resolution sets repainting “on a six year cycle.” That is one association’s paint-prep list, and the wash is marked optional.
The homes around the driveways
The Census Bureau’s 2024 five-year estimates put an estimated 14,358 of McLean’s 17,833 housing units in detached one-unit homes, and 86.1 percent of the occupied units are owner-occupied. Those are survey estimates for the Census-designated place. They do not describe what any driveway, walkway or patio is made of.
