What OSU says about algae and siding

Oregon State University’s Solve Pest Problems page on mold, which its menu lists as “Mold in Homes & Structures” (page text updated June 30, 2022), says algae grows outdoors on moist surfaces and gives “vinyl siding and wooden decks” as examples. It also places algae in shady spots, with “the north side of buildings” among them. The entry is regional guidance for the Pacific Northwest. It is not about any Gresham neighborhood, and it names no company.

What the code says stucco is

The Development Code’s definitions describe stucco as “An exterior finish composed of some combination of Portland cement, lime and sand (and sometimes additives such as glass fibers or acrylic)”. It is a definition used in the code’s standards for new construction, and it says nothing about cleaning.

Siding in a Rockwood grant

In the Census Bureau’s 2024 five-year estimates, Gresham’s stock of 44,005 homes and apartments breaks down by year built as 21,160 before 1980 (48.1 percent), 13,730 from 1980 through 1999 (31.2 percent) and 9,115 from 2000 on (20.7 percent). Neither a build year nor a unit count says what covers the walls of any one house.

From Centennial to Wilkes East

Soft washing is available throughout Gresham, from the Centennial neighborhood, whose association page on the City’s site says it is “on the edge of the Fairview Creek wetland,” to Wilkes East. Wilkes East’s boundary text includes “NE 181st from NE Glisan to NE Sandy”. The Centennial page’s boundary text names NW Eleven Mile Avenue.

Nadaka Nature Park is in the Wilkes East neighborhood, and the City’s trails page places the Nadaka Loop Trail “within the Nadaka Natural Area north of Glisan Street and west of 181st Avenue.” Kirk Park is a seven-acre neighborhood park next to Hartley Elementary School. The City’s trails page gives the north access point of the Gresham-Fairview Trail as “Northeast Halsey Street at 201st Avenue.”
