Before and after holiday lighting installation by Clearly Amazing

Holiday lighting in Happy Valley comes from our Portland / Tigard office, and we install it at homes and businesses. Strands of professional-grade LED, white or multicolor, are cut to follow the roofline and held in place by clips, and nothing gets nailed or screwed in. The connections used are weather-rated. Season by season, the lights are leased and stay in our hands, and we hold them in storage when the season ends.

The tree lighting on the City’s events list

The City of Happy Valley’s Community Events listing, in the Internet Archive’s July 2026 copy, shows a Tree Lighting Ceremony for “Sunday, December 6th 2026, 4pm-6pm” at the Happy Valley City Hall parking lot. The same entry says “More information coming soon” and that the description below it is reference text from 2025. The description invites readers to “Kick-off the holiday season with one of Happy Valley’s most beloved traditions.”

The City’s page for the 2025 edition listed Sunday, December 7, from 4 pm to 6 pm at City Hall. It said the event was presented by Happy Valley Parks and Recreation and called it “this annual tradition”. That page was posted before the event. The City’s listing is the source for the 2026 date, and the City is the one to confirm it.

Light Up the Valley, the City’s photo invitation

The City’s Parks & Recreation page for Light Up the Valley, in a January 2026 archived copy that carries a 2025 submission form, invites residents to “deck the halls and join in the festive fun!” Homes, businesses and apartment balconies could be decorated, photographed and submitted on the City’s website. The page lists no prizes, winners or deadlines.

A December 2025 newsletter of the Happy Valley Business Alliance, hosted on the City’s site, carried the item “Light Up the Valley Returns” and said a submitted display “could be featured on the City’s social media pages and website”. The program belongs to the City, and none of it is ours.

Clackamas Fire’s 2025 Operation Santa Claus listings

Clackamas Fire’s page for its 2025 Operation Santa Claus planned “five different parades in neighborhoods across the community.” The Happy Valley parade was listed for Friday, December 5, 2025, at 6 pm. A donation drop-off at Happy Valley City Hall was listed for Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 2 pm to 6 pm. Those are the fire district’s 2025 listings. The district’s events are not ours.

Seasonal lighting in the City’s lighting code

The City’s lighting standards, Section 16.44.040 in the copy the City’s code host showed in April 2025, list the lighting they except from their requirements. The list includes “Residential lighting for single-family attached, single-family detached, duplexes, triplexes, quadplexes” and “Temporary decorative seasonal lighting provided that individual lamps have a light output of 60 watts or less.” A separate subsection says “No flickering or flashing lights shall be permitted, except for temporary decorative seasonal lighting.”

That is the code’s text as captured. Later editions are the City’s to provide, and the text is the City’s, not ours.

Holiday decorations in one community’s standards

The architectural standards of the Jackson Hills association, revised in April 2008 and posted on its own website, say “Normal holiday decorations do not require ACC approval.” They add “Holiday decorations shall be removed within 30 days of the holiday,” and the board reserves the right to require removal of decorations “that neighbors find offensive or significantly objectionable.” Those standards belong to Jackson Hills only.

PGE’s outdoor-safety page

Portland General Electric’s Outdoor Safety page, as archived in July 2026, puts the minimum distance from power lines at 20 feet for people and their equipment, and says to use cords “rated for outdoor use.” The PGE page is general safety guidance rather than a holiday page, and the wording is PGE’s.
