What the code and the Fire Department say about windows

San Marcos’s property-maintenance chapter lists buildings that “have broken windows or broken windows secured with wood or other materials” among the conditions it prohibits. The chapter says its standards “apply to only portions of private property that is visible from the public right-of-way.” The chapter does not mention dirty windows.

For the commercial zones, the sign code says “All window signs combined, permanent and temporary, shall not exceed an area one-third (1/3) the area of frontage window area.” That limits signs and has nothing to do with cleaning.

The Fire Department’s wildfire page says “Windows should be dual-paned with one pane of tempered glass to reduce the chance of breaking during a fire.” That is the Fire Department’s own list, and it names no company.
