Algae on patios and walkways, in Oregon State’s words

Oregon State University’s Solve Pest Problems entry on moss, updated May 28, 2026, says algae grows in shady locations on walls, sidewalks and patios. It calls algae on walkways “a slipping hazard.” On cleaning, the entry describes pressure washing as “effective for decks, patios, and sidewalks,” and follows that with “It’s not advised for roofs.” That is general guidance for Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. It is no Clackamas rule, and it names no company.

What the County’s landmark ordinance says about sandblasting

Section 707 of Clackamas County’s Zoning and Development Ordinance covers designated Historic Landmarks, Historic Districts and Historic Corridors. Among its criteria for major alterations, the ordinance bars chemical or physical treatments, sandblasting among them, that “cause damage to historic materials”. Whether a given property is designated is for the County to say.

The Town Center area, in the County’s own history

Clackamas County’s Development Agency page on the Clackamas Town Center Area says “For its first urban renewal program in 1980, the County selected the area around the intersection of I-205 and SE Sunnyside Road.” It adds “That private investment began in a big way in 1981 with the opening of the Clackamas Town Center shopping mall.” That is the County’s account of how the area’s commercial center began. It says nothing about cleaning.

Owners, renters and bigger buildings in the Clackamas ZIP code

The Census Bureau publishes no current figures for Clackamas as a place, so the figures below are for ZIP code 97015, as the Census Bureau tabulates ZIP areas in its 2024 five-year estimates. Of its 9,305 occupied housing units, 5,953 are owner-occupied (64.0 percent) and 3,352 are renter-occupied (36.0 percent). Buildings of five or more units hold an estimated 2,842 of its 9,578 housing units, or 29.7 percent. Those are housing-unit counts for a ZIP area, not a survey of flatwork.
