RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

Clearly Amazing cleans windows across the City of Alexandria from our Northern Virginia office in Sterling, covering the glass on both sides along with screens, sills and tracks. Alexandria is an independent city, which in Virginia means it belongs to no county.

Is your house attached or detached?
The Census Bureau’s 2020–2024 estimates count 80,844 housing units in Alexandria, and 60.9 percent of them are in buildings of five or more units. Among single-family homes, attached ones outnumber detached ones, 16,825 to 11,237.
If your house shares a wall with the one next door, its exterior glass sits on two faces, front and back. That keeps the job simple to plan: the estimate looks at how those two faces are reached and what kind of windows are in them.
The median year built across the city’s housing is 1974. That figure describes buildings, not windows. Sashes and glass get replaced on their own schedule, so the only way to know what is in your frames is to look at them.
Windows in the Old and Historic Alexandria District
Two of the city’s historic districts are regulated locally through the Board of Architectural Review: Old and Historic Alexandria, and Parker-Gray. The Board approves a Certificate of Appropriateness for new construction and for exterior alterations on structures designated as visible from a public way.
In that district, the policy BAR staff use for administrative approvals lists examples of ordinary maintenance requiring no Board approval, and minor repairs to windows, shutters and doors are on that list. The same document does not use the word cleaning or washing anywhere. So the policy is silent on window washing, and it tells applicants to talk with BAR staff ahead of any work, so that staff can put a determination in writing. Residential projects in Parker-Gray fall under separate guidance, not that policy.

Areas we cover in Alexandria
Our coverage takes in Old Town, where the civic association has worked to preserve the neighborhood’s character since 1951, along with Del Ray, Seminary Hill and Parker-Gray, and the rest of the city. The wider Northern Virginia area is served from the same Sterling office.
For businesses, we keep storefront and office glass on a recurring schedule across Northern Virginia, and condo or HOA common areas such as clubhouses can be quoted as well.
When to schedule in Alexandria
Reagan National Airport’s 1991–2020 NOAA normals show no month without meaningful precipitation, from 2.62 inches in February to 4.33 inches in July. There is no dry season to wait for, so the calendar is open.
Spring and early fall are comfortable stretches for outdoor work. Any other month is a good time too: before a listing, before guests arrive, or simply because the view has been bothering you. Clean glass is ongoing upkeep, so a regular cycle keeps each visit light.
Questions Alexandria customers ask
Do I need Board approval to have my windows washed?
The Old and Historic Alexandria District policy does not mention washing either way. We won’t answer on the city’s behalf; BAR staff can give you a written determination if you want certainty.
Can you keep our storefront on a regular schedule?
Yes. We clean storefront and office windows on a recurring schedule in Northern Virginia, and we set the interval with you at the estimate.
One of my windows looks fogged even after cleaning. Why?
Fogging between the two panes of an insulated window is a failed seal. No cleaning reaches it, because it is inside the unit. We will point it out so you can decide whether to have the glass replaced.
Should I do my own windows?
Ground-floor glass is a reasonable job to do yourself. Upper floors mean a ladder.
